Who we are

Located in Cambridge, the Green Street Shelter is an adult emergency shelter serving both men and women experiencing homelessness. Green Street Shelter was originally operated by Solutions at Work, which opened the shelter in 2021 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The shelter was created to provide immediate relief for individuals experiencing homelessness, initially housing 50 guests and offering a robust array of essential services and necessities to support their well-being during a critical time.

In 2023, ACEDONE, a Boston-based nonprofit, assumed operations of Green Street Shelter. Building on the foundation established by Solutions at Work, ACEDONE continues to provide safe, stable shelter for individual adults both men and women while expanding support services and strengthening pathways toward long-term stability. Green Street Shelter was developed to meet the urgent need for individual adult shelter beds, distinct from family or youth shelter systems. It provides a low-barrier, accessible entry point for individuals seeking immediate refuge while navigating housing instability.

The shelter’s model emphasizes dignity, safety, and individualized care. Residents are supported through a combination of emergency housing and coordinated services that address the complex factors contributing to homelessness, including economic hardship, health challenges, and systemic barriers.
